Oasis - Talk Tonight

In 1994 a band named Oasis  had hit the big time selling arenas across the UK and producing some of the great songs we all know and love today. The next mission for the Gallagher brothers and the rest of the band was to hop over the pond and conquer the US. However, the first trip to America did not go well. In Los Angeles on September 29th 1994, Oasis came on stage so high on drugs (later found out to be meth) that they could barely play. After the gig the band hit breaking point with many altercations. Noel and Liam's on-going feud had blown out of proportion and both began talking of an end to the band. Liam has always been a feisty character and despite his passivity Noel had now had enough of his crazy brothers antics. Noel flew to San Francisco alone, met a girl and wrote 'Talk Tonight'.



 

 

The song talks of Noel's plane journey over to San Francisco and the thought of a potential end to the great band. His isolation at this time was shown in the lyrics that he was 'A thousand million miles from home'. Noel met a girl, who in the song he admits he cannot remember name of. It was later discovered that Noel met her at a bar in Vegas. She told him he looked just like George Harrison and asked if he was a musician. He told her he 'was in a band'. This nameless women talked with Noel until the 'morning light' and eventually convinced Noel to not quit the band.

 

 

She started telling him about her own fascination with The Beatles and how she saw them in concert when she was a teenager. She discussed how The Beatles had helped her and inspired her. The two drank and talked all night. Noel explains how the few days with her gave him a chance to reassess everything going on with the band. Noel in the song claims she "saved his life" and convinced him to carry on creating music and touring with Oasis.

 

 

The next day Noel decided to join the band at a studio date they had in Texas. This woman reaffirmed Noel's commitment to the band's success and made him realize that it was worth bringing his music to America. He admitted that he needed "Some time out". A new era of Oasis had begun. As a thank you to this woman, Noel wrote 'Talk Tonight'. The next year Oasis released the album (What's The Story) Morning Glory?, which included 'Cast no Shadow', 'Don't Look Back in Anger' and 'Wonderwall'.
